High-Quality, Corrosion-Resistant Lighting for World-Class Swimming Centre

In 2020, the design of a new indoor swimming pool began in Hastings, in the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand. The indoor pool was to be expanded to add a world-class indoor lap pool to the already excellent health and fitness facilities at Mitre 10 Park. The Regional Aquatic Centre is home to the region’s newest swimming school and 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool that can be used for national and international swimming events as well as public swimming. The swimming centre also has a separate 25 m pool for beginners and several hydrotherapy pools. There are a total of 888 permanent seats and the grandstand can accommodate up to 1,662 people if required.

The facility had to meet the highest Olympic standards, be as sustainable as possible in terms of construction and operation and, at the same time, meet high design requirements. Powell Fenwick Consultants was responsible for the design of the indoor pool and opted for a high-quality ewo lighting system. A total of 61pcs. R–System R2 4,000K CRI ≥ 80 LED floodlights were used, which can be individually controlled via DALI drivers. In this way, the light intensity can be adjusted individually and according to requirements, and the entire lighting system can be checked and diagnosed quickly and easily.

The main objective of this project was to provide a high-performance lighting system that would meet the standards for international events set by FINA (International Swimming Federation), while offering low energy consumption and maximum visual comfort. One of the reasons why the planners chose ewo as their lighting supplier is that our luminaires are extremely corrosion-resistant thanks to the ewoEPC coating and are also equipped with high-quality stainless steel outer screws. Due to the immediate proximity of the luminaires to chlorinated water, these protective features were crucial.
